Welcome to the Friendliest Legion in the District, Penetanguishene Legion Branch 68, where camaraderie, remembrance, and community come together.

President: Pat White, MMM, CD

Our History

RCL Branch 68 Penetang was first established in 1919 and granted its Charter on November 26th, 1926. Join us in 2026, when we will commemorate our 100th Anniversary with Branch Celebrations. More to follow.

Our Mission

Our mission is to serve Veterans, including serving military and RCMP members and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and our country.

Since its humble beginnings, Branch 68 has been proudly supporting its community in many significant ways. When you join the Legion, you support the many services we offer to Veterans, serving military, RCMP Members, and their families. Your membership also helps provide essential services within our communities with supporting seniors groups, minor sports, local hospitals, drop-in centres, Cadets, youth and sport programs, bursaries, and much more. There are many ways the Legion gives, and by joining, you, too, can help make this difference.

Thanksgiving Message from Padre Douglas Clark

Dear Members of RCL Branch 68,

As the Thanksgiving Holiday approaches, I am reminded of the things in life that truly are blessings - not just something that has fallen into place, as if it were some inherent right. Yet many of the things that surround us in our daily lives easily become commonplace, simply part of living in a country as good and great as Canada. This, too, is a blessing, but one that came to all of us at a tremendous price.

Even something as simple as marveling at the fall weather we have been experiencing this year, and the beauty that creation has to offer, is something to be thankful for. But do we really think of it in those terms, or do we see it as something that “just happens to be there”?

My favourite theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, said of Thanksgiving:

“In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.”

I believe what Pastor Bonhoeffer was trying to tell us is that, sadly, much of the world considers Thanksgiving just another excuse to throw a dinner party and eat ourselves into some sort of food coma. But it must be much deeper than that if it is to have any sincere meaning at all.

I realize this may seem like a challenging thing I’m asking you to do, but I encourage you to take the time to think about the blessings you truly have in life. For example, the blessings of God in our lives. The blessings of living in Canada. The blessings of family and friends. And the blessing of being an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where you can become involved and have a sense of belonging and purpose.

These are the types of blessings that collectively make us far better off than choosing to dwell upon the things we too often see as unfavourable. What I am saying to you is this: make it a practice within your daily life to develop an Attitude of Gratitude and celebrate the goodness before you. This comes as a challenge, not merely as a request, because if you do this, you will find that genuine gratitude allows the sweetness of life to diminish the bitterness of discontent.

Your executive thanks you, the membership, for your support and your willingness to help achieve the principles and beliefs the Legion stands for. We are quickly approaching the 100th Anniversary of Branch 68, a milestone we cannot let pass without a significant time of celebration and thanksgiving - and your executive cannot do this alone.

As your Padre, I am appealing to all of you to dig in and help make this an event to remember. In the days ahead, there will be work parties organized and tasked to prepare not only for our anniversary celebrations, but also for the years to follow and for those who will come after us. And so, my question to you is: will you be one of the members to help pass the torch to the next generation?

Before you answer that, I remind you once more: gratitude allows us to see how much we receive in life, often more than we realize. Thanksgiving is a chance to reflect on the countless ways we are valued, supported, and blessed - and that includes you as a member in the life and work of Branch 68.

May your Thanksgiving be rich in joy, abundant in love, and overflowing with gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Grace, Peace, and Blessings,

Padre Doug+
